US/UK
Welfare Reform Working Group
Meetings of the US/UK Welfare Reform Working Group
occurred in 1999 and 2000. The meetings, attended
by US and UK welfare reform experts and funded
by the German Marshall Fund, compared and contrasted
welfare reform efforts in the two countries in
an effort to better understand each other¹s
initiatives and to envision new approaches. Two
papers from the Working Group are available: one
on the UK commitment to end child poverty and
how that might be adopted in the US, and the other
a primer for the UK on the type of infra-structure
or retooling of welfare department offices that
is necessary before welfare reform can occur.
